The exhibitions and the symposium of the Quadriennaleattempt to trace and reflect this legacy in the creation of contemporary art. Marion Ackermann, Director of the Kunstsammlung NRW summarizes from her perspective: "As an art historian, it is my main concern to ensure that the explosive nature of history can be felt in an exhibition, but - at the same time - I formulate questions from a contemporary perspective - linking art and the present." A statement which could used as the guiding principle for the exhibitions of the Quadrienniale 2010. The museum kunst palast does not display the great teacher Nam June Paik - the "godfather of video art" - by himself but in conjunction with the young winners of the Nam June Paik Award. The very title of the exhibition "Marcel Broodthaers and Today" - a cooperation between the Kunstverein and the Kunsthalle - already expresses the powerful influence of this major Belgian artist on contemporary art positions.
